Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sure! My name is Tylin Jarrett, and I'm an 18 year-old singer/songwriter. I currently have over 7,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and I'm almost at 5,000 listeners on Apple Music. I love to play basketball, dance and obviously sing! :)
What inspired you to get started?
I decided to pursue music at the end of my junior year. My junior year was full of emotions and tons of ups and downs, and I think my true passion came out after all of that. I started singing, and people really started liking my stuff, and they loved how I sang about positivity and motivation. Music seriously saved my life, and I'm so grateful to be in such a better place now than I was a year ago.
How do you go about writing your songs?
I find inspiration and lyric ideas in the weirdest places. Like I'll be in the bathroom washing my hands and I'll get an idea for a song. Or I'll be cleaning my room, and a rhythm pops up in my head. It's crazy. I'm sure other artists can agree.
How do you feel about the current state of music?
Nw listen. I really like rap. I love Travis Scott, he's my favorite artist. But I feel like the current state of music and mainstream media is filled with way too much rap. We have almost no uplifting and positive music that is being pushed into the mainstream, and it frustrates me. Look where we are right now. We're in a pandemic. We need to focus on staying uplifted and motivated in these times. So I just want a lot more positive music pushed into the mainstream. A good mix or pop, rap, and hip-hop. But let's be more positive with our approach to putting out songs in these genres. More positive rap. More positive pop. That's what I'm trying to do.
What is your main goal as far as music goes?
As long as I can touch somebody's heart through my positive messages/lyrics and put out music that people can relate to, then I've done my job.
What is your all-time favorite song?
ASTROTHUNDER by Travis Scott. It's such a beautiful track and is super therapeutic to me. It saved my life. It helped me feel again.
How would you describe your sound/style?
Unique. Yeah, definitely unique and different from everybody out there right now.
What is your dream venue to perform at?
Probably the STAPLES Center. I grew up playing basketball and I loved the Lakers. I went to a couple games in my childhood, and I loved the vibe of the arena.
