Interview: R.A.E.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

R.A.E.: My name is R.A.E. aka Real And Explicit. I am a 22-year-old female recording artist from the DMV

hailing from Maryland. Been on my grind music for 3 years and some change now and R.A.E. is the

epidemy of being different and being bold to not be like anyone else. The concept behind my sound

is to inspire and uplift through what I call “positive crank” basically I am your new version of a

Hip Hop Rockstar with a ski mask lol. What inspired you to get started? R.A.E.: Poetry inspired me to get into rapping; however, singing was my go-to since I was 3 and then just

being in the choir from 6 years old to 20 years old. But I used to write poetry a lot and that drew

my attention to rap and make myself more versatile as an artist. But my true love and passion is

what really got me into creating music into a career for myself. How would you describe your sound/style? R.A.E.: My style and sound would often be compared to a trap Rihanna, with a hint of Missy Elliott and

Lauren Hill but I did it my way. I like to say that my sound is the new sound of this generation.

It’s got an undeniable swag is woven with truth and catchy melodies that would make anyone at any

age rock out. But I can do pop R&B Neosoul or Rock if I wanted to and even Gospel but I basically

combined it all into one sound. Who are your current inspirations in the music industry? R.A.E.: Rihanna, Cardi B, and Missy Elliott are my inspirations. Rihanna for her bold approach in music,

Cardi B for staying true to herself and never letting the fame change her, and Missy Elliott for being

the pioneer and creating that producer lane for us female artists coming up in the game. But most

importantly they all were different and stood amongst the other female artist because of their

bold personalities. What is the concept behind your latest project? R.A.E.: “The Takeover Mixtape” was created out of my mood of rising on top and taking the industry over

Because of how different my sound is and because I don’t just rap and sing and write my own

Lyrics I have also started producing my own beats and this project was the first of many where

3 of my own beats were presented to the public. So, the concept was to highlight that I am coming

For my spot in the industry and no one was going to stop or dim my light. Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?

R.A.E.: Yes, I have been putting together my own promo tour; however, it is harder when you are an

independent artist doing this with no label or manager backing you up, but I know that God will

provide me the right resources and people to help fulfill this desire in my heart. What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually used?

R.A.E.: KEEP GOING! Even when the odds seem against you keep going and NEVER give up.

Everything takes time and nothing comes overnight, I used to struggle with patience but now

I let things flow but just keep working hard and stay consistent. Keep the faith as well never

Stop praying for what you want and don’t stop believing that God will bring it to reality. Dreams aren’t

hard to pursue it is all up to the individual and their mindset that allows them to make it big. What is your main goal as far as music?

R.A.E.: To heal and inspire. Basically I want to reiterate the real purpose of music which is to heal and

Inspire others to be better and happier in life. What separates you from other artists? (What's makes you different?) R.A.E.: No lace front, makeup, or vulgar lyrics. I set myself apart in all areas, call me the rebel of the industry. What is your dream venue to perform at? R.A.E.: OMGGGG ROLLING LOUD!!! Where can the fans check out your music news?
